KOTA KINABALU, July 17 (Bernama) -- Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and
Environment through the Sabah Tourism Board has funded RM700,000 to organise 10
annual festivals at the district level in the first six months of this year.
Its Assistant Minister, Datuk Ellron Angin said as at June, the ministry had
contributed RM80,000 to assist in organising four festivals as requested by the
districts.
"In addition, the ministry also aided eight festivals at the district level
with a total allocation of RM210,250 last year," he said replying to a question
by Datuk Ramlee Marahaban (BN-Bugaya) at the State Legislative Assembly sitting,
here today.
Ellron said the assistance was disbursed based on the impact of the festival
through a set of criteria including the ability of the festival to attract
domestic and international tourists.
"Apart from that, the generation of tourism revenue as well as the
preservation of the local culture and traditions were also considered for the
festival aid," he said.
In this regard, Ellron also urged the districts involved to seek their own
sources of funds for the festivals organised.
Meanwhile, Sabah Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs
Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, when replying to a question by Ahmad Bujang (BN-Sindumin)
on the setting up of the 1Malaysia People''s Store in Sipitang, said several
locations in the district had been identified through a visit by the Ministry of
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism with its consultant, Mydin.
