SAFFC 2-2 Geylang United: Amy Recha strike helps Geylang hold wasteful Warriors

The Warriors let a two goal lead slip but extended their unbeaten run as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Geylang United at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium in a tight affair witnessed by 1,496 fans.

Geylang United started the brighter of the two sides going close after 2 minutes. Jozef Kaplan drove at the Warriors defence and attempted to slip in Micheal King but the ball broke to Rizawan Abdullah who could only screw his shot wide.

On 13 minutes, Geylang had another great chance to take the lead. Korean Mun Seung Man fired a great strike from 25 yards out but keeper Hassan Sunny palmed the effort away comfortably.

The floodgates were soon to open on 17 minutes with Karoglan netting his red-hot streak netting for the third consecutive match. Erwan Gunawan slipped a pass to Fazhrul Nawaz down the left wing and he played the ball across the penalty box for Karoglan to slam the ball home.

That goal sparked life into the game and the pace gradually increased. The Warriors extended their lead 4 minutes later with an outstanding strike. Shukor Zailan was fouled just outside the Geylang box and Tatsuro Inui stepped up to curl the ball home, his third free kick this season.

In the Geylang reduced the deficit with a fortuitous attempt from Mun Seung Man. His attempted curler from 30 yards caught goal keeper Sunny by surprise and crept in off the far post.

The half drew to a close with both sides looking for another goal but failing to carve out clear cut chances.

The second-half resumed in similar fashion and the Warriors almost stretched their lead on 52 minutes. Good play by the bright Erwan and he fed Karoglan in the Geylang box with space. Karoglan's cross was met by defender Ishak Zainol who saw his clearance go of his own goal post.

Fazrul Nawaz soon had chances to extend their Warriors lead first with a header from an Inui corner and then from an attempt he carved out for himself just outside the box.

The Warriors continued to press looking for a third goal to kill off the contest but failed to convert their chances with Karoglan and Fazrul and were made to pay on 78 minutes.

A hopeful punt upfront by the Geylang back line was chased down by Amy Recha and he took advantage of a shocking clearance by Eddie Chang to slot home with a cool finish.

The last ten minutes were frantic with both teams throwing caution in search of a winner, but it was not to be. The Warriors were left to rue missed chances as the game ended with a draw ending the Warriors' 3 game winning run.
