SIBU, March 31 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government plans to set up a
university of technology in Sibu, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said
here.
He said the university would produce graduates trained in technical fields
to meet the manpower needs of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score).
The state would focus on technical education and training in view of the
need for more trained manpower in technical fields, he said last night at the
110th anniversary celebration of SMK Methodist Sibu.
Taib called on all quarters to cooperate with the state government to
realise the establishment of the university in Sibu.
He said SMK Methodist Sibu should be proud to have produced three famous
businessmen, namely Datuk Hii Yii Peng (of Kingwood Group), the late Datuk Seri
Lau Hui Kang (KTS Group) and Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King (Rimbunan Hijau Group).
