Saveur magazine announces winners of best food blog awards

A recipe blog created by a Chicago gourmand who credits his culinary training to years of watching public broadcast cooking shows has been named best cooking blog by readers of US magazine Saveur.

At the 3rd annual Best Food Blog Awards, Tim Mazurek's Lottie + Doof, largely a baking site, beat out fellow nominees like Cookie and Kate, Seven Spoons and Big Girls, Small Kitchen for recipes like rosemary pine nut cookies, burnt orange ice cream and garlic soup.

After putting out a call for submissions earlier this year, editors of Saveur magazine whittled down 40,000 blog submissions to six nominations in 17 categories and handed the decision-making power to readers, who voted for their favorite.

Mazurek, who has been blogging since 2008, has a background in fine arts and is also a published food writer and has contributed to publications like Bon Appétit magazine, Time Out Chicago, Saveur and The Chicago Sun-Times.

Other notable winners this year include Lillie Auld's Butter Me Up Brooklyn, which won the category of Best Baking & Desserts Blog; Istanbul Eats for the Best Culinary Travel Blog; and Bon Appétempt, for Best Food Humor Blog.

Meanwhile, earlier this year the International Association of Culinary Professionals awarded Cheryl Sternman Rule's 5 Second Rule with its inaugural best culinary blog award.
