Stijn Schaars says he is relishing the challenge of Netherlands' group at Euro 2012 after claiming that he is unfazed by any of the players he will face this summer.
The 28-year-old, who plies his trade with Sporting Lisbon, is likely to fill in at left-back following the injury sustained by Erik Pieters, who was forced to miss out on the tournament.
Teenager Jetro Willems is the Oranje's only other option in the position, but Schaars insists he is ready to step up to the plate, and believes he can handle renowned pacy wingers Dennis Rommedahl and Nani.
"After consultation with the coach, I will focus on that position. In midfield, I will not be considered, although I played there for a year in Portugal." the former AZ man told De Telegraaf.
"Tactically, I am strong and can anticipiate well. On the other hand, I can play my role in building the Oranje.
"I'm not afraid of the speed of Dennis Rommedahl [of Denmark] or Nani [of Portugal] at the European Championship. Of course, I'm not your typical defender."
Netherlands begin their final preparations for Euro 2012 with friendlies against Bulgaria, Slovakia and Northern Ireland before their Group B opener against Denmark in Kharkiv on June 9.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has no choice but to throw its weight behind Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who will likely survive his second term as prime minister due to a lack of alternative, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said.
