Schalke will offer Klaas-Jan Huntelaar a lucrative new three-year contract at the end of this week in a bid to keep him at the club, according to Bild.

The Dutchman's current deal at the Veltins Arena expires in just 12 months' time, but with the player scoring a scintillating 48 goals last season, the club are eager to secure his long-term future.

The 28-year-old is currently on holiday, having taken part in his country's Euro 2012 campaign, but will return for pre-season on Friday, when he will be offered a three-year deal with an €8 million annual salary.

"We have planned to get together again when he is back from his holiday," confirmed sporting director Horst Heldt, who went on to state that he will soon begin a number of other Schalke players.

"We will soon be able to start specific discussions with [Lewis] Holtby, [Christoph] Moritz, [Atsuto] Uchida and [Lars] Unnerstall."

Schalke finished third in the Bundesliga last season, some 17 points behind Ruhr rivals and eventual champions Borussia Dortmund.
