KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 25): In another sign that Barisan Nasional (BN) is sparing no effort in trying to regain Selangor, the coalition is launching a new radio station to disseminate information that can win over the hearts of voters.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the Selangor BN chairman, is expected to officiate at BN Selangor FM’s launching ceremony, Sin Chew Daily reported on Thursday.
It quoted Selangor BN coordinator Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed as saying that the station was scheduled to go on air next week.
The report did not mention if the station, operating from the 9th floor of the Selangor Umno building in Shah Alam, will use only Bahasa Malaysia or broadcast in other languages as well.
“The construction has been going on for a while, and it is expected to be launched next week. Right now it is not convenient to disclose the details,” Mohd Zin was quoted as saying.
The radio station is another measure taken by BN Selangor to reach out to the people after the Barisan Nasional Service Centre (Pakar) programme was launched in mid May.
Pakatan Rakyat has in the past criticised the BN for using the government owned RTM TV and radio stations to promote its propaganda, saying it is forced to rely on online media and party organs to reach out to the people.
The PR government in Selangor however allocated RM15 million, under Budget 2011, to set up online television station TV Selangor, Radio Selangor and a newspaper, SelangorKini, to highlight the state’s policies and programmes.
