PUTRAJAYA, July 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia''s continuous commitment and
engagement in the Sentinel Asia Committee is proof of its dedication in
promoting the Asian spirit of helping and enriching its neighbours in Asia
Pasific countries who faced natural disasters.
Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said
Malaysia was proud to be part of the team, and the fact that three agencies from
the country participated in the initiative, was proof of its high commitment.
"The latest was the appointment of the National Space Agency of Malaysia as
data analysis node for Sentinel Asia Step 2," he said when officiating the 4th
Joint Project Team Meeting for Sentinel Asia Step 2 here today.
Sentinel Asia, a disaster management initiative under the purview of the
Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum, is a collaboration programme
between space agencies and disaster management-related agencies to share
disaster-related information on a near real-time basis across the Asia Pacific
Region.
All agencies in the 24 countries involved, use mainly satellite-based
technology and systems such as remote sensing images, Web-Gis technology,
satellite commmunication services and satellite navigation.
