KOTA BAHARU, May 20 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Mustapa
Mohamed today asked PAS not to set conditions for its proposed talks with Umno
if the opposition party is really sincere about having the discussions.
He said Umno had agreed a long time ago to the talks but PAS had imposed
unreasonable conditions which derailed the attempts to have the discussions.
"It is better that no conditions are set. There should be no conditions
which can jeopardise the talks.
"This is a good thing and should be welcomed by all quarters. Of more
importance is the unity to be forged," he said after opening a seminar on
nursing held in conjunction with Kelantan-level World Nurses Day celebration,
here.
Mustapa was asked to comment on a statement by PAS spiritual leader Datuk
Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat that he agreed for talks to be held with any NGO,
including Umno, on condition that the basis of the discussions was why people
reject Islam.

Mustapa said Umno and PAS should discuss how to strengthen unity and
reinforce Islam.
"We should be open about having this discussion. For Umno, it is for the
good of the country, eventually," he said.
