SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Shah Alam has been chosen for a pioneer
project which will generate employment and provide a brighter future for youths
with poor academic achievement, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk
Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said today.
He said the "Perkasa Usaha Untuk Cipta Kejayaan" (Mighty Effort to Create
Success) or "Puncak" project will help rebuild the careers of youths through a
skills programme or on-the-job training.
"Right now, some 175 youths in Shah Alam will join the programme before it
is extended to other parliamentary constituencies, such as Gombak, which have
many industries.
"Through this programme, youths who have dropped out of school or failed
their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination will get help to secure jobs
that suit their skills," he told reporters after launching the project,
organised by the Shah Alam Umno division, at a hotel here.
The Puncak project was introduced by the National Alliance of Academic
Bodies (Pembina), an organisation responsible for empowering the Human Capital
Development Agenda in youths.

Under the programme, youths aged between 18 and 25 will be guided towards
self-confidence, a positive personality and suitable jobs that match their
interests.
Participants will take part in a three-year programme conducted by
consultants, managers and instructors who are specialists in counselling, career
development and entrepreneurship.
Mohd Shafie, who is also Pembina chairman, said DRB-Hicom, as the corporate
partner of the Puncak project, will give a six-month industrial apprenticeship
training to participants and absorb them upon their passing the programme.
