The Transport Ministry has decided that anyone who wants to apply for a car and motorcycle licence will only have to sit for a single traffic law test.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the decision was made after the ministry took into consideration complaints it had received from driving institutes.

"Currently, those who wish to get a car or a motorcycle licence have to study the car and motorcycle modules separately, and have to sit for two tests.

"After receiving the complaints, we decided that they would still need to study both the modules separately, but only take a single test," he said in Muar today.

Liow said his ministry had already requested the Road Transport Department director-general to issue the directive to all driving institutes and hoped that the decision would make it easier for the younger generation to obtain their driving licences.

Meanwhile, Liow said search missions for Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean had already covered 15,000 sq km of the ocean's 60,000 sq km search area.

He said efforts to search for the plane could be able to complete by May this year if more ships were added to the mission.

The plane disappeared on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8. – Bernama, January 23, 2015.
