KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- Reality-based writing on 1Malaysia
community life has brought Daniel Rajasingam Subramaniam the grand prize in the
Dublin Literary Award Essay Competition for Young Malaysians 2011.
"The 1Malaysia concept influenced my essay. I wrote about my daily
activities within a multi-racial environment that is harmonious," said the
16-year-old student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Abdul Samad in
Petaling Jaya.
He was speaking to reporters after the competition winners were announced by
Irish Ambassador to Malaysia Declan Kelly at his residence here today.
As the grand prize winner, Daniel gets two tickets for a five-day trip
to Dublin and a 32-inch LCD television set.
Eibhlin Lin San Ying, 15, from SMK Convent Klang, Selangor, emerged
the overall prize winner in the junior category and took home Euro750 (RM3,233).
Kelly, who was the chief judge of the competition, said the organisers
received about 1,000 essays.
The competition with the theme ''Teenagers Today'' was open to students and
divided into junior (14-15 years) and senior (16-18 years) categories.
It was organised by the Embassy of Ireland with the cooperation of the
