KUANTAN, May 6 (Bernama) -- A Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD)
eastern region assistant enforcement officer claimed trial at the Special
Corruption Sessions Court here to nine counts of graft involving RM7,000 last
year.
Mohd Azam Abdullah Zawawi, 44, who was based at the Kuala Terengganu SPAD
branch is accused on six charges of receiving RM6,000 from K R Alagendran
through the bank account of DMIX Harmony Trading as an inducement not to take
action against his lorries which had violated the Land Transport Act 2010.
He allegedly committed the offences at B-338, CIMB Bank Jalan Beserah in
2011, between April 26 and Oct 21.
Mohd Azam who is represented by counsel Ahmad Zaidi Zainal is also accused
on three charges of (i) receiving RM1,000 cash from Alagendran, (ii) not
reporting the bribe to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and
(iii) not taking action against Alagendran''s lorries.
He allegedly committed the offences in front of Maxis Jalan Beserah on Dec
13 last year at 12.15am.
Judge Mohd Azhar Othman set bail at RM6,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 3-7
for trial during which Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin from the MACC
will call 21 witnesses.
