KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The enforcement of the SPAD''s operator
licence (OL) since Wednesday helps improve the management of public land
transport operators'' licences and permits.
Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar
said with the enforcement, operators need to renew their licence or permit
between one and seven years, thus minimise their dealings with the commission.
He said under the new system, operators need to keep track of only one
expiry date compared with the previous system where each vehicle had different
expiry date.
"Imagine if an operator has 300 vehicles, he has to keep tabs on the expiry
date of 300 licences whereas the OL has only one expiry date for all 300
vehicles.
"This will save time as operators can focus on efforts to improve the
quality of their services," he said in a statement today.

Syed Hamid said the OL was being issued in stages since Jan 31 to land
transport operators who have reregistered with SPAD.
"Operators who have not received the OL just need to ensure that their
licences or permits are not expired or revoked," he said.
He said 74,612 operators had registered with SPAD during the re-registration
exercise from April to December last year while 17,313 operators failed to do
so.
The licences or permits of operators, who failed to register with SPAD, are
considered void or expired, he said, adding that if they were still in operation
they were deemed to be operating illegally.
