STAFF TO STAGE MAJOR PROTEST ON PROPOSED CORPORATISATION OF PAHANG JBA

TEMERLOH, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,700 officers and staff of Pahang

Water Supply Department (JBA) will stage a major protest if their request for

the postponement of the corporatisation and privatisation of the agency was not

    addressed.

Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman said the corporatisation and

privatisation of the agency scheduled for Feb 1 must be postponed as the staff

had yet to be given complete information and rational explanation about the

    matter.

"Cuepacs, together with all staff of the agency, have no other choice but to

stage a major protest if the government decided to implement the corporatisation

    of the agency.

"On behalf of the agency''s staff, I would like to call on Menteri Besar

Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob to use his power to postpone the corporatisation so that

all issues pertaining to the matter can be resolved for mutual benefit."

He said this after attending a briefing on the new Public Service New

Remuneration (SBPA) system and the corporatisation of Pahang JBA here yesterday.

Omar said the postponement of the corporatisation was vital because no

official meeting was convened with the workers'' union representatives to discuss

the matter which would clearly affect the staff''s future.

He said 80 per cent of the Pahang JBA staff had already signed the approval

form as directed by their respective heads of department without knowing the

details of the new service under the proposed corporatisation.

"At the same time, those who have signed the approval form have been

deployed to work at new locations regardless of their age and skills.

"The relevant authorities should solve the SBPA issue first before trying to

implement the corporatisation of Pahang JBA in such a short notice to the extent

of raising questions, especially among the Pahang JBA staff," he added.
