STUDENTS, BIGGEST GROUP INVOLVED IN ELECTRICAL ACCIDENTS

KANGAR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Students made up 23 per cent of those involved

in electrical accidents between 2005 and last year, said Tenaga Nasional Berhad

(TNB) vice-president (distribution) Datuk Rozimi Remeli.

Based on statistics from the Energy Commission, he said the students were

    linked to 405 electrical accident.

He was speaking to reporters at the Perlis state-level seminar on awareness

of electrical safety at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Salang near here.

About 300 students and teachers from 74 schools throughout Perlis took

part in the seminar with talks, exhibition and quiz to test their understanding

    on electrical safety.

Beginning this year, Rosimi said, TNB had begun giving special focus to the

student group for a safety campaign, including becoming seminar participants.

"We regard the student group as long-term investment on electrical safety as

they are still young," he added.

Previously, when the seminar was introduced in 2007, a total of 6,588

teachers from 1,481 schools nationwide had taken part.
