'Super Pokémon Rumble' trailer shows battling action

Super Pokémon Rumble's Japanese website

The world's first 3DS Pokémon game is due in Japan on July 28, but it's a bit of a departure from the usual formula.

Super Pokémon Scramble, as it's known in Japan, scraps the turn-based bouts of standard Pokémon encounters.

Instead, miniature wind-up Pokémons hurtle around battle arenas in search of each level's giant boss, bouncing off enemies like Hungry Hippos' ball bearings, or Beyblade's spinning tops.

Though Super Pokémon Scramble is set for a July Japanese debut, no mention has been made of an international release -- and perhaps rightly so, for its website has only just gone live.

Until that day, 2009's plain old Pokémon Rumble has worldwide availability as a WiiWare download, and Pokéfans can take solace from Rumble's recent export history.

Given a Japanese release in June, it was with Europeans and North Americans by November of the same year. That's in line with the same five-to-seven month delay typical of modern Pokémon games.
