Suspected abused toddler was underfed

KAJANG: The three-year-old boy who died from suspected abuse by his parents, who are now under police custody, was underfed for at least 18 months, post mortem results revealed.

Kajang police chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said doctors at the Serdang Hospital who conducted the post mortem said in their report that Mohamad Irfan Raiyan Mohamad Shan was lacking in minerals and nutrients.

"The doctor said that Mohamad Irfan, aged three years and four months, was under-weight. A normal boy of his age should weigh at least 15kg and above but when doctors weighed the boy, he was only 8kg," said Ab Rashid.

He said the boy's last medical check-up record was 18 months ago when he weighed 11kg and "this proves that there has been drastic weight loss."

Ab Rashid said police have also consulted a hospital nutritionist as part of their investigations as the weight loss before the boy's death also needed to be investigated.

The post mortem established the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

The toddler also had scars on his head, hands, legs and body.
