KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- A suspected snatch thief died while his
accomplice was seriously injured when they were involved in a collision with a
van after grabbing a Singaporean woman''s handbag.
The duo had earlier snatched a handbag from a woman, who was having her
meal, at a restaurant in Jalan Batu 3.5, Cheras at 1.25am today, said Cheras
police chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh.
He said a motorist, who saw the incident, gave chase and allegedly knocked
into the back wheel of a motorcycle, causing the suspects to flung against a van
parked on a road shoulder, about 250 metres from the restaurant.
Both suspects, who suffered serious injuries, were taken to the Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, said Mohan Singh.
He said the 18-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries after
admission at about 3am while the 18-year-old pillion rider, who allegedly
grabbed the handbag, was warded for a fractured leg.
Mohan Singh said the snatch theft victim lodged a report at the Dang Wangi
police station and claimed her handbag.
