KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Arshad Ayub and Khalidah Adibah
Amin were named the recipients of the 2012 Umno''s Eminent Malay Personality
award at the party''s 66th anniversary at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium
tonight.
The award, presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is
also Umno President, was given to honour their contributions to the country and
Umno.
Arshad, 84, who is Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Pro-Chancellor, was
overwhelmed and grateful for the award and hoped the Malays would not forget the
contributions by Umno for the people and the country.
"Until today, I have yet to find evidence of other Malay parties capable of
helming the country, like Umno," he said when met by reporters.
Arshad, who is still active in the corporate world and education, was a
director UiTM, then known as Institut Teknologi Mara, from 1967 to 1975.
Khalidah Adibah, 76, was given the award for he contributions in literary
field.
She is the daughter of freedom fighter Tan Sri Zainon Sulaiman or Ibu Zain.
