KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The RM4 million film ''Tanda Putera''
showcases second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein''s role in restoring
peace to Malaysia after the May 13, 1969 racial unrest.
It also reveals his close friendship with his deputy Tun Dr Ismail Abdul
Rahman and how both kept their ill health secret and worked shoulder-to-shoulder
to develop the nation.
Abdul Razak died on Jan 14, 1976 in London while undergoing treatment for
leukemia while Dr Ismail died of a heart attack on Aug 2, 1973 in his office.
Persona Pictures Sdn Bhd managing-director Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba, who
also directed the film, said the film was a joint venture with the National Film
Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
"The film is 95 per cent ready and will be screened next year. It is hoped
that the film can create an awareness in society on the struggles of the two
statesmen, " she told reporters after attending a breaking-of-the-fast ceremony
here today.
Prolific actor Rusdi Ramli was cast in the role of Abdul Razak, Zizan Nin
played Dr Ismail while Faezah Elai portrays Tun Razak''s wife, Tun Rahah Tan Sri
Mohamad Noah.
