MELAKA, July 10 (Bernama) -- Melaka police have nabbed a teenager

believed to be involved in a snatch theft incident which left a female clerk

dead in Jalan Benteng, Balai Panjang, here, four days ago.

The 17-year-old, a drop out, was arrested with three men, in

their 20s, during an operation on two homestays in Merlimau and Semabok, which

began at 1.30pm yesterday.

Melaka CID deputy chief Supt R. Gunarajan said the suspects were believed to

be members of a gang responsible for 15 house break-ins and snatch theft cases

in Melaka Tengah and Jasin since last year.

He said following investigations, the teenager admitted to taking a handbag

from the victim''s motorcycle basket during the incident.

"The teen was riding a motorcyle with another friend, who we are still

seeking, during the incident," he told a news conference at the Melaka

Contingent Police Headquarters, here today.

POLICE-SNATCH 2 (LAST) MELAKA

In the 8.05am incident last Saturday, Tang Mui Choo, 35, was riding a

motorcycle on her way to work when two men approached her and caused her to fall

off her machine, resulting in the victim head and rib injuries before she was

pronounced dead the next day.

Gunarajan said police also seized three laptops, eight mobile phones, a

wallet and foreign currency and four helmets during the operation.

The gang was believed to seek shelter in homestays or hotels and left only

to steal or buy drugs.

He added that the suspects, all of whom tested positive for methamphetamine,

had been placed under remand pending investiagtions.
