PUTRAJAYA, May 21 (Bernama) -- Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga Nasional

(Tekun Nasional) has managed to collect RM15 million a year in loan repayment

from its borrowers.

Its chief executive, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hassan, said the amount would be used

for the loans in addition to the annual grant of RM200 million from the

government.

He said from 1989 to end-April 1011, Tekun Nasional has approved loans

amounting to RM1.68 billion to 183,364 borrowers.

"During this period, Selangor registered the highest number of applicants of

20,201 with loans amounting to RM239.907 million.

"Borrowers from Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan were responsible when it

came to paying back the loans," he said at the Seminar on Entrepreneurship here

today.

The seminar was officiated by member of Parliament for Putrajaya, Datuk

Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Adnan said potential entrepreneurs, especially those in urban areas, should

make use of the facilities under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based

Industry to improve their economic status.

"Tekun''s financing can help reduce urban poverty now," he said.

He said those earning below RM2,000 could borrow up to RM5,000 from Tekun to

start a small business.
