TELECOMMUNICATION TOWER A HOT TARGET FOR THIEVES IN GUA MUSANG

GUA MUSANG, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- A telecommunication tower built on top of a

hill in Kesedar Lebir Land Development Scheme (RKT) near here had become a hot

    target for thieves.

Kesedar Lebir Federal Village Development and Security Committee chairman Ab

Aziz Ab Rahman said not only iron rods at the tower were stolen, the thieves

were also believed to have dismantled two power generators and sold the

    components as spare parts.

He said their activities were discovered last Saturday after local residents

went to check on the tower after having trouble getting a signal for their

    mobile phones.

"We are worried that the activities will not only disrupt mobile phone

signal, but also with the possibility for the tower to collapse and threaten the

    residents'' lives," he said.

He said a police report about the matter had been lodged and the

telecommunication company had also been informed about the activities at the

    tower.

A resident, Rosmin Ab Rahman, 46, said such activities should not take place

at the telecommunication tower as it was built for the convenience of the

    people.

"We are disappointed with the attitude showed by the culprits who would go

to the extent of stealing iron rods and vandalising the power generators at the

tower without thinking that one day they might also need to use the facilities,

    especially during emergency," he said.
