Topless protester stopped for trying to snatch Euro 2012 trophy

A Ukrainian topless protester was detained by police after grabbing the Euro 2012 trophy while it was being displayed in Kiev, according to Reuters.

Yulia Kovpachik, 23, approached the silverware that was displayed in the city's Independence square, before pulling down her shirt to reveal the message 'F**k Euro 2012' daubed across her torso.

As she grabbed hold of the trophy, security guards grabbed the women before covering her modesty with a sheet and escorting her to a police car.

Kovpachik is believed to have been protester for Femen, a Kiev-based women's rights group who are known for their bare-breasted protests in the Eastern European nation.

The group regularly act out over what they believe to be political injustice, social abuse and exploitation of women in Ukraine. Femen believe Euro 2012 will bring with it a host of problems, the principal issue being an expected explosion in sex tourism amongst football fans following the tournament.

Over one million visitors are expected in Ukraine over the summer for Euro 2012, the competition the nation are joint-hosting with Poland.
