KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- A trader who was forced to endure
eight days of beatings in a kidnapping by a group of men, managed to get away in
one of the kidnappers car last month.
In the incident at about 10.40pm on Jan 14 in Padang Midin near here, the 38
year-old man and his colleague were followed by two four-wheel drive vehicles
before he was abducted and taken to a house in Beris Lalang, Pasir Puteh,
Kelantan.
The colleague was released unharmed.
However, on Jan 22, the victim managed to escape from the house by driving
off in a car belonging to one of the suspects before making a police report in
Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
Terengganu CID chief, ACP K. Manoharan said throughout the incident, which
was believed to be motivated by business rivalry, the victim''s wife was
contacted several times by the group which demanded RM200,000 as ransom.

He said upon the victim''s report, police launched a special operation to
hunt down all the suspects who were believed to be hiding in the state and
Kelantan.
"On the day the victim escaped, police detained a woman in the kidnappers''
house before arresting a couple aged 59 and 56, three days later.
"Following the detention of the three individuals, police succeeded in
nabbing one more main suspect aged 40 in Bachok, Kelantan on Feb 4, who has been
charged in the Magistrate''s Court," he told a news conference here today.
Manoharan said based on the information of the suspects, police found the
kidnap was carried out by seven men.
He said police were also looking for Syukri Mohamad Abiah, 30, from Felda
Bukit Goh, Kuantan and Mohd Haikal Rasdi, 27, from Pasir Puteh to assist
investigations.
