He was one of the greatest footballers ever to grace the game and now Johan Cruyff has decided to share his experience and expertise with Malaysians.
The Dutch legend has picked the Iskandar Malaysia region in Johor Bahru as his location of choice for the opening of the Johan Cruyff Institute (JCI) Malaysia.
Cruyff will travel to Johor in September for the opening ceremony of the institute, which is a collaboration with a subsidiary of Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB).
“The opening of JCI in Educity, Nusajaya will make Malaysia the first country in Asia to have world class sports development and management center,” IIB’s CEO, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim told a press conference yesterday.
“JCI would be the first higher learning institute to focus on sports in Malaysia as it will be offering various courses across different sporting events and disciplines for students.”
“As an institution of higher learning, JCI Malaysia will offer a variety of programmes starting at the certificate level up until bachelor's degree in sports management.”
Syed Mohamed also added that the inauguration of this institute will play a part in producing highly educated world class athletes in the future.
The 65-year-old Cruyff will arrive in Johor Bahru next Tuesday, where he is expected to officially open the institute.
