    TRADER CHARGED WITH DRUG ABUSE

    HULU TERENGGANU, 5 Feb (Bernama) -- A 34-year-old trader, out of prison less

    than two months ago after serving almost 10 years imprisonment for a

    drug-related offence, was arrested again yesterday when police found drugs on

    him during a check near Astaka Kuala Berang here.

    Acting Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief ASP Mohd Rosli Mohd Amir said a

    plastic packet with four straws, each containing 10 ecstasy pills, was found in

    the man''s trouser pocket.

    The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine, he said when met at

    his office here today.

    Following his arrest, police were led to a house in Kampung Gaung, Kuala

    Berang, where another man, believed to be a university graduate, was arrested at

    1.20am today.

    "A scuffle broke out between the police and the second suspect, aged 31,

    when the later attempted to escape, but the police managed to over-power him,"

    he added.

    "During the scuffle, the man three a bag, which was later found to contain a

    transparent plastic containing 30 ecstasy pills and RM620," he added.

    Both are being remanded for investigations under Section 12 (2) of the

    Dangerous Drugs Act.

    In a related development, four people where detained when they tested

    positive for drugs at a karoake centre at Jalan Besar near Wisma Kembang, Kuala

    Berang, here yesterday.

    He said they were among 45 patrons, including three women, who were at the

    karoake centre when police raided the premises.
