TWO COPS CHARGED WITH USING CRIMINAL FORCE ON PRESS PHOTOGRAPHER

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Two policemen claimed trial at the

Magistrate''s Court here today to using criminal force on a newspaper

photographer at the Bersih 3.0 rally that was held here on April 28.

L/Cpl Mohd Khairul Asri Mohd Sobri, 30, and Constable Shahrul Niza

Abd Jalil, 24, are alleged to have committed the offence on Wong Onn King, 33, a

photographer for Guang Ming Daily, at the Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Raja

junction here between 5.20pm and 5.30pm on April 28.

Mohd Khairul Asri is based at the Tanjung Malim police headquarters

while Shahrul Niza, at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

If found guilty, they can be jailed up to three months or fined up to

RM1,000, or both, under Section 352 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Zulkipli Abdullah allowed bail at RM3,000 in one surety for each

of the accused nd set June 18 for mention.

The two accused posted bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Farizul Hassaniah Bakri appeared for the

prosecution while Counsel Salim Bashir represented the duo.
