KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib
Tun Razak''s speech in conjunction with the celebration of the party''s 66th
anniversary at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here had the more than
100,000 party faithful who turned up all fired up to face the impending 13th
general election (GE).
Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal told reporters that it was
the right "ammunition" for the members ahead of the GE.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, also Umno vice president, said he hoped
the members would give their wholehearted commitment to translate into reality
the call by the party president.
"What was delivered by the President (Najib) was not mere rhetoric, we must
redouble our efforts," he said.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad described the speech as a
powerful one and it was clear after the assembly tonight that Malay unity was on
a stronger footing.
Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the speech served
as a reminder to Puteri Umno members to continue to work hard to secure a big
victory for the Barisan Nasional in the GE.
