UMNO IS MORE OPEN THAN OPPOSITION, SAYS SHAFIE APDAL

PUTRAJAYA, May 17 (Bernama) -- Umno is more open than the opposition in

accepting dissenting views, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie

Apdal.

He said this could be attested by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun

Razak''s readiness to engage anybody as long as through orderly manner.

"He (Najib) could wake up at 2am to watch a football match with youths,

monitor Twitter and Facebook, and interact with all," Shafie told reporters

after presenting excellent service awards to 231 employees of the Rural and

Regional Development Ministry here today.

On the contrary, he said the DAP did not extend the senatorship of former

vice-president Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim due to his criticism on the Bersih

3.0 rally while PAS sacked former Selangor PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali

for being critical on its leadership.

Mohd Shafie, who is also rural and regional development minister, said the

people should use proper channel to voice their views, instead of holding

demonstrations or resorting to unbecoming behaviour.

On the National Key Result Areas on improving basis rural infrastructure, he

said to date 27,000 rural households received electricity supply and 79,000

households received clean water supply.
