"Underworld" gets a reboot

31 Aug – Fans of the fantasy film genre is in for a treat as it has been confirmed that "Underworld" is getting a reboot!

The film franchise featuring Lycans and vampires are coming back to the cinemas, rebooted by Lakeshore Entertainment – the studio behind the original franchise.

Lakeshore has hired Cory Goodman, whose works include 2001 film "Priest" as well as upcoming Vin Diesel film "The Last Witch Hunter", to pen the reboot's screenplay.

There is no word yet on whether Kate Beckinsale will be reprising her role as vampire Selene, but the chances for her to return are high seeing that the only film in the series not starring Beckinsale performed the worst in terms of sale.

The film franchise has grossed USD 458.2 million worldwide. The first "Underworld" was released in 2003. Encouraged by its success, another three films soon followed. "Underworld: Evolution" was released in 2006, prequel "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" and finally "Underworld: Awakening" in 2012.
