UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA WIN NATIONAL ROBOCON 2012 TITLE

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia''s (UTM)

Group B emerged as winners in the 11th National Robotic Contest 2012 (Robocon)

when they defeated Team Musang King from Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM)

Balik Pulau in the final held at Stadium Negeri, here today.

They took home RM10,000, certificates of participation, trophy and qualified

to represent Malaysia in an international competition in Hong Kong themed

''Towards Peace and Prosperity'' to be held in August.

UTM Group B representative S. Yuvarajoo, 23, an electrical engineering

student said the 30-member team was proud to defend UTM''s third consecutive

title win and eighth time as champion since the competition was introduced in

2002.

"We never thought we could defeat other universities and get to this level,

as there were other excellent teams from UTM.

"Our team has been waiting for this win and will improve our robotic

capabilities to face the challenge in Hong Kong," he told reporters at the end

of the event.

ROBOCON-COMPETITION 2 (LAST) KUALA TERENGGANU

Also present was Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said who

presented prizes to the winners.

The four-day competition which began on Saturday was participated by 427

individuals and held outside the Klang Valley for the first time.

A total of 61 teams from 44 private and public institutions of higher

learning, polytechnics, community colleges and skills training institutes

nationwide joined the competition.

The Musang King team received RM7,000 and certificates of participation.

The Robocon 2012 was organised by the Higher Education Ministry with

cooperation from the state government, UTM, SIRIM and Radio Televisyen Malaysia

(RTM).
