KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- To encourage children to read in the
English language, Les'' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd (Les'' Copaque) today launched
"Upin & Ipin: The Magazine" in the international language.
This comic magazine which came after the Bahasa Melayu version, was launched
by the deputy prime minister''s wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, who lauded
it as yet another effort to encourage children to read and this time to also
improve their English proficiency.
"Publishing ''Upin and Ipin'' in English is not aimed at sidelining the Malay
language which is upheld as our national language, but is additional reading
material for children.
"And if they want to learn English, they can read this comic magazine," she
Norainee said the ''Upin and Upin'' animation series was very popular among
children, including her own grandchildren.

"This animation series does not only provide entertainment but also contains
noble values and lessons on everyday life.
"It also portrays the 1Malaysia concept where the children go to school and
play together, besides learning about and appreciating each other''s culture and
traditional values," she said.
Norainee also said that the reading habit must be inculcated from an early
age to encourage life-long learning as "reading is the source of knowledge".

with NYLA Sdn Bhd, also contains news, information, activities and contests
related to the animation characters.
