US likens LeT to al-Qaida in "strength and organization"

Washington, June 3(ANI): The US Homeland Security chief has likened the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to al-Qaida. US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the LeT, which is a danger to India, could also be a threat to the United States, VOA reports. Napolitano also said that the LeT is "al-Qaida-like" in its "strength and organization." The Homeland Security chief had held security cooperation talks in India last week, where she and Indian officials discussed ways to fight terrorism. India has long accused Pakistan of supporting the Islamist militants who carried out the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The attackers- who included LeT members- took over a hotel, a Jewish center, and several other buildings in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. Several people were held hostage over the next three days, and at least 166 people- including six Americans- were killed before Indian commandos smoked out the last of the terrorists on November 28, 2008.
