JOHOR BAHARU, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is to
offer a Bachelor in Nuclear Engineering programme beginning September, UTM
vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said today.
He said the course will be the first of its kind offered at a local
institution of higher learning.
"The objective of establishing the course from the 2012/2013 academic
session is to supply alternative resources to the existing system. We (UTM) give
the opportunity to students to delve deeper into matters relating to nuclear
because we need nuclear in various sectors such as medicine and energy," he told
reporters after the appointment of the dean of the UTM Graduate Study School,
Prof Rose Alinda Alias, as deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international
affairs), here.
Rose Alinda takes over from Prof Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim who was appointed
deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) effective last Monday.
Zaini said 30 students would be selected to undergo the four-year nuclear
engineering course at the UTM main campus in Skudai. He said the course is also
open to international students, but limited to a small number.
