Volkswagen set to become world's largest automaker

Volkswagen is likely to become the world's most popular automaker by the end of this year.

The German brand, already the third-most bought automaker in the world, is likely to vault over rivals Toyota and General Motors by the end of the year, analysts surveyed this week by the Financial Times said.

The development will mean that for the first time in several years, a European, rather than a Japanese or North American, name will be at the top of the world's car league table.

By the end of the year, VW will have sold 7.8 million vehicles and have a 10.5 percent market share, analyst JD Power told the Financial Times, followed by General Motors with sales of 7.2 percent.

Toyota will be in fourth place behind Renault-Nissan in the wake of its current supply problems due to March's earthquake in Japan, JD Power said, although other analysts predicted a third-place finish for the Japanese name.

We won't know if the analysts are right until the automakers report their full-year figures at the beginning of January -- last year the Volkswagen Golf was easily Europe's most popular vehicle, but Volkswagen didn't enjoy such stellar sales around the world.

However, with so much focus on developing markets, the story of 2011 looks set to be very different.

I own a Volkswagen Polo. I love this car because the body is very durable. Too bad, the car parts are so expensive.

It isn't that practical to own a VW in the Phil especillay for the average Juan. Maintaning it isn't that easy comparing it to those made by the Japanese manufacturers. Sa carwash lang di nila basta-basta binabasa ang makina kasi maselan tlaga.

mali ka yata, very durable ang vw. nakadesign yan for washing kasi kailangan talaga icar wash yan...hahaha.

Masa mali ka sir, We have a VW Passat here in Dubai and whenever we tried to have it carwash, they dont want to even open the engine to clean it, Why? sabi niladi ito basta-basta kina-carwash. Mas maganda dalhi ito mismo sa isang VW auto shop. That is actually based on my experience, how about yours?

Durable nga, but could you find spare parts which are genuine incase you ness one in the Phil? maybe yes pero pahirapan
    • Vyg  •  6 months ago
Volkswagon should venture more in Phil, karamihan sa 'tin nagtyatyaga na lang buhayin ang vintage Beetle.

hehe.

And here, we consider Toyota Camry and Honda Accords as Luxury vehicles. Ganito ba talaga ka baba bansa natin?

if you check consumer reports here in the u.s, vw has a bad reputation for years now and that's true to all euro cars sold in the u.s. vw and euro cars are only popular in asia and europe where the there's no strict standards and no consumer protection.
