Woman splashed with acid in snatch theft

RAWANG: A woman was injured after being splashed with a corrosive liquid believed to be acid by a man while waiting for a bus at Batu 17 here yesterday.

In the 7am incident, the victim, S. Rani, 46, was waiting for a bus at a bus stop when she was approached by two men. One of them then snatched her necklace and fled, said Gombak district police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah.

"Before the suspect fled the scene on foot, the other suspect splashed a liquid which is believed to be acid on her and the liquid hit her on her back. She then experienced a burning sensation on her skin," said Abdul Rahim.

A schoolgirl who was at the bus stop witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police.

"The victim then was taken to Selayang Hospital and was given outpatient treatment. She however could not identify the suspects as it was still dark at that time and the incident happened so fast," he said.
