YOUNG GENERATION SHOULD HELP GOVT TO FORMULATE POLICIES, STRATEGIES FOR NATION DEVELOPMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin

Yassin today said that the government had always wanted to understand the

aspirations of the young people in Malaysia, their thoughts about national

issues and their views on how to better manage the country''s economy.

He said the young people had an important role to play in helping the

government to formulate policies, strategies and programmes to create nation

development agendas to improve the people''s living conditions, prosper the

country and ensure the people''s safety and wellbeing at all time.

"The young generation have their roles and places in the country, not only

as legal citizens, but also as the heirs to the society''s and country''s

leaderships. You will be the determining factor for the future of the country.

"We cannot afford to isolate ourselves. You and I must start the engagement

process that will become the platform for us to draft and implement something

that will bring about mutual benefits for all of us."

The deputy prime minister said that when opening the National Young Leader

Convention organised by the Malaysian Parliament, with cooperation from the

National Civic Bureau of Prime Minister''s Department, Higher Education Minister,

Malaysian Institute of Teacher education and Malaysia Youth Council, here today.
