YOUTH CYCLING: MUHAMMAD EDRUS WINS FIRST GOLD FOR MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Muhammad Edrus Md Yunos brings the glitter

of gold to Malaysia at the ongoing 32nd Asian Cycling Championship (ACC) and the

19th Asian Junior Cycling Championship at the Cheras Velodrom, here.

Muhammad Edrus clocked the fastest time of one minute and 06.647 seconds in

the 1km men''s elite time trial event ahead of closest rival Mahmoud Parash of

Iran with a mere 0.439s time difference.

"I''ve not expected this because it''s been quite sometime I''ve not raced in

the 1km event. This gold medal is a bonus for me because I''ve not set any target

for the event. My coach John Beasley has set the target of a medal of any

    colour," he said.

The presence of national cyclist Mohd Rizal Tisin spurred him to race hard,

    he said.

Meanwhile, national track cyclist Fatehah Mustapa won the bronze in the 500m

    time trial event with 36.394s.
