Zach Braff is proud of his new stage show as it provides “belly laughter”.
The Scrubs actor wrote and directed All New People – which showed in Broadway last year. The comedy play has made its way over to the UK and Zach has the lead role of Charlie this time round.
The 36-year-old’s character is suicidal, but the comedy play draws lightly on the subject.
“That’s my favourite type of tone, where you can vacillate between belly laughing and turn a corner and something quite serious in someone’s life has happened,” he explained in an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph.
Zach can identify with Charlie. The funnyman says feeling low at certain points in his life gave him inspiration to create the situation in the show.
“Oh, of course,” he exclaimed when asked if he can relate to how his character is feeling.
“I mean I’m not suicidal and I never have been, thank God, but I have battled these feelings. I have been on and off antidepressants at times in my life. Anyone who battles depression occasionally or all the time will tell you that you’re sort of stuck. Charlie talks about being in a pit and looking for a way out.”
