'ZHENG HE' DOCKS AT PORT KLANG

PORT KLANG, April 29 (Bernama) -- The ''Zheng He'' oceangoing training vessel

of the Chinese navy, which is currently on a round-the-world voyage, arrived at

Port Klang today.

Led by Rear Admiral Liao Shining, the ship''s five-day visit to Malaysia

is aimed at enhancing ties between the naval forces of China and Malaysia.

"The main purpose (of the trip) is to promote friendship between the Chinese

and Malaysian navy, as well as demonstrate our resolution in promoting the

concept of harmonious world, harmonious ocean," he told reporters through an

interpreter.

The ship''s crew members are scheduled to take part in several activities in

Melaka, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, including sports, a visit to the National

Hydrographic Centre and a brass band performance.

The public may visit the vessel from 9am to 11.30am and from 2pm to 4.30pm

on May 1. Admission is free.

Malaysia is the ship''s second port of call after Vietnam. It began its

journey on April 16, from Dalian city in northeast China''s Liaoning Province.

The Zheng He is scheduled to journey more than 30,000 nautical miles and

visit 11 countries within five months.
