#MH17: Netizens react to crashed MAS plane
A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has crashed in insurgency-wracked east Ukraine. It was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew members.
The airline said it had "lost contact" with the Boeing passenger liner around 10.15pm Malaysian time.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said the jet may have been shot down.
"We do not exclude that the plane was shot down and confirm that the Ukraine Armed Forces did not fire at any targets in the sky," Poroshenko said in a statement posted on the president's website.
When news broke, Malaysians - including Prime Minister Najib Razak and several prominent politicians - were quick to take to their social media sites to express their shock:
I am shocked by reports that an MH plane crashed. We are launching an immediate investigation.
