5 stunning new villas in Bali

Oversupply might be the right word to describe hotel rooms in Bali right now. New properties have been springing up since late last year and this is likely to continue until the end of this year.

Nusa Dua in Southeast Bali is already packed, Ubud in the center of the island is becoming increasingly hectic; even Jimbaran near Kuta Beach seems to be overcapacity. Yet, there are always places for privacy and luxury on the island, in the form of private villas.

Here is The Jakarta Post Travel’s selection of the five most stunning new villas in Bali:

1. Alila Ubud Terrace Tree Villas

Dawn sees Bali’s lush rain forest at its most beautiful. Mist rises above the trees and settles in the deep valleys, radiating from the towering volcanoes at the island’s heart.

The best way to enjoy this spectacle is to be settled in a treetop villa, which is designed in a simple, yet luxurious, way.

There are only four villas of this kind, each of which boasts 120 square meters of space, featuring both an indoor and outdoor living experience.

Each villa has a huge alfresco wood-decked living area facing the tropical forest and a very well-designed interior that is harmonious with its surroundings.

The aroma of tuberose blooms offers a sense of comfort throughout the villa, which is decorated in warm wood tines and recycled teak furnishings.

What we love: The unparalleled hospitality and personal touches, such as the Alila drinks that are specially delivered to your villa in a customized box along with homemade butter cookies. One of the drinks is made from snake fruit, the other from passion fruit and Bali arak.

2. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

Earlier this year, the 42 villas perched next to the sacred Ayung River underwent a major renovation.

Designed by Koichi Yasuhiro, the resort still maintains a Balinese architectural style with large open spaces and a private plunge pool facing the Ayung River.

The entryway to the villa is unique. A simple lily pond and a shaded meditation area greet you when you arrive. To enter the villa, you have to go down the stairs and there, you find your private tropical home amid the trees and foliage of the river valley.

What we love: The intricate Balinese details in the interior design, using shells and coconut mosaics, traditional ikat fabric and a carved wooden screen behind the bed.

3. Amanusa Villas

If space is what you need, this recently opened villa perched on top of a hill in Nusa Dua is more than generous. With approximately 4,000 square meters of space and comprising four or more bedrooms and private swimming pools, Amanusa Villas offers some of the largest villas on the island.

Famous for its understated luxury and impeccable service, every Amanusa resort offers you the ultimate in intimacy, even in a huge private villa.

Balinese architecture is also a key part of the overall design, embracing and respecting the natural surroundings.

What we love: The generous space and how it blends well with nature.

4. Le Meridien Oceanic View Sky Villas

Young, arty and trendy are suitable words to describe these four villas, which are located on top of the resort building.

Each villa is decorated with an oceanic palette through the artwork and contemporary furniture.

Each 280-square-meter villa also has a private swimming pool and views overlooking Jimbaran Bay.

What we love: The big outdoor bathtub.

5. Mulia Villas

While we are talking about luxury on the island, we have to include this resort.

There is nothing understated about the 108 villas that Mulia offers. Every detail is crafted to the finest degree.

The highest-quality materials and threads are used for the linens, the carpeted floor, the designer chairs, the highly veneered furniture and Chinese artworks.

With its exquisite design and decor, Mulia brings eastern glamor to the island.

What we love: The green hues used in the interior design creates a balance between the oriental decoration and the Balinese surroundings.
