KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Following the announcement by Tan Sri Azman

Hashim, Chairman, AmBank Group on 30 March in relation to Mr Ashok Ramamurthy’s

appointment as Group Managing Director, AmBank Group and Mr Cheah Tek Kuang’s

retirement as Group Managing Director, AmBank Group, Tan Sri Azman is once again

pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Cheah Tek Kuang as Adviser to the

Chaiman’s Office and Datuk Mohamed Azmi Mahmood as the Deputy Group Managing

Director, AmBank Group.

Group Managing Director

As the Group Managing Director, Mr. Ashok Ramamurthy will be appointed to the

Board of Directors of AMMB Holdings Berhad. He will continue to serve as a Board

member of key subsidiaries of AmBank Group including AmBank (M) Berhad,

AmInvestment Bank Berhad, AmIslamic Bank Berhad and AmInvestment Management Sdn

Bhd. Additionally, he will hold the position of Chief Executive Officer of

AmBank (M) Berhad, and be appointed to the Board of Directors of other key

subsidiaries including the insurance companies.

Tan Sri Azman said, “I am confident that Ashok Ramamurthy will provide the

requisite leadership and guidance that will take the AmBank Group to even

greater heights of achievement. His vast experience, as well as solid expertise

and knowledge will be invaluable assets to the group and aid in assuring the

success of the various initiatives along the Group’s growth journey.”

Adviser to the Chairman’s Office

Mr Cheah Tek Kuang retires as the Group Managing Director of AmBank Group on 1

April 2012 and he will take on the new advisory role as Adviser to the

Chairman’s Office, AmBank Group. Mr Cheah will be appointed Deputy Chairman of

AmBank (M) Berhad and AmInvestment Bank Berhad respectively. Additionally, he

will continue as Non-Executive Director of AmIslamic Bank Berhad.

As part of his duties as Adviser to the Chairman’s Office, Mr Cheah will provide

guidance to Mr Ashok Ramamurthy as he transitions into his new position as Group

Managing Director for three months, from April to June 2012. Effective 1st July,

Mr Cheah will continue to serve as Adviser to the Chairman’s Office.

Tan Sri Azman added, “Cheah Tek Kuang has made a remarkable contribution to the

Group. Over a 34 year-career, including 18 years as a Board member and senior

executive, he has been instrumental in the growth of AmBank into one of

Malaysia’s large and successful institutions. I know Ashok will continue to

build on the very strong foundations laid by Cheah Tek Kuang.”

Deputy Group Managing Director

As the Deputy Group Managing Director, AmBank Group, Datuk Mohamed Azmi Mahmood

will also concurrently retain his current position as Managing Director, Retail

Banking, AmBank (M) Berhad, reporting directly to Mr Ashok Ramamurthy.

“Given his 31 years’ experience with the Group, his contributions to the Group’s

various transformation programmes and his vast experience, especially in retail

banking, Datuk Azmi is an eminently well-suited candidate to take on the role of

Deputy Group Managing Director and continue as Managing Director, Retail

Banking. I am certain that he will provide solid support to Mr Ashok Ramamurthy

in leading the Group in scaling new heights of success,” added Tan Sri Azman.
