Azmin sworn in as Selangor MB

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali has just been sworn in as Selangor's 15th menteri besar before the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The ceremony at Istana Alam Shah took place at 10.45am, according to Bernama, with the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman dressed in traditional Malay attire, accompanied by his wife Shamshida Taharin.

Only official media were allowed to cover the ceremony.

It could not be immediately determined if PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were present.

Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi, state assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh, and Selangor exco members Iskandar Samad and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi were also present at the swearing-in ceremony, reports Bernama.

Azmin recited the MB's oath containing ten pledges he must adhere to for as long as he leads the state.

They include upholding the Rukun Negara, preserving and protecting the status of Islam as the state religion, upholding and defending the sovereignty of the royal institution, and carrying out his duties with the highest integrity, responsibility, honesty, trust and sincerity.

The MB's oath also binds him to protecting the special position of the Malays and the interest of other races as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the laws of the state, prioritising the people's interests so long as they did not threaten the state, safeguarding the good ties between Selangor and the federal government, and preserving harmony among different races.

Azmin succeeds Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who helmed the state since 2008.

After taking his oath, Azmin signed the letter of his appointment witnessed by Shah Alam High Court judge, Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah. – September 23, 2014.
