That’s what you get for being a big mouth, Zahid tells DAP’s Rayer

Penang Umno distances itself from cow-head incident

This morning’s incident where a severed cow’s head was dumped at the home of R.S.N. Rayer was the result of the DAP lawmaker’s “big mouth”, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Despite expressing sympathy over the incident, the home minister said, “But it is the price he has to pay for being a big mouth.”

Zahid was referring to Rayer’s “Umno celaka” remark which he uttered at the Penang legislative assembly last month.

Rayer said his wife alerted him today morning when she found the cow's head at the front gate of their house.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were investigating the incident.

Khalid said police would provide extra protection for Rayer if necessary.

"In the meantime, I advise him to keep quiet and not to make any provocative statement," he added.

Rayer, who is the Seri Delima assemblyman, did not link the incident to his remark at the Penang assembly.

"I cannot say that this has to do with that... but this (the cow head) is the first such incident I have encountered since then.

His “Umno celaka” remark resulted in a group of Umno Youth members demanding an apology and action be taken against him.

Rayer was to have been charged with sedition last week over the remark, but the Attorney-General (A-G) ordered at the last minute that his case be deferred.

This morning’s incident is not the first time a cow’s head has been used in protest against Hindus.

In 2009, a group of residents from Shah Alam had brought a cow's head to the Selangor state secretariat building in protest against the state government's decision to relocate a 150-year-old Hindu temple from Section 19 to Section 23.

One person was subsequently sentenced to a week’s jail and fined RM3,000 over the incident while about 10 others who were with him were fined RM1,000 each for illegal assembly. – June 28, 2014.
