TAWAU, 2 Mac (Bernama) -- Seorang penuntut Universiti Brunei Darussalam

(UBD) ditemui mati lemas manakala seorang lagi masih hilang selepas mereka

dihanyutkan ''kepala air'' di Sungai Balung di sini semalam.

Mayat Muhamad Azizan Mohd Sidek, 22, dijumpai terapung di hilir sungai itu

pukul 3.57 petang hari ini, manakala usaha mencari dan menyelamat Muhd Hazmi

Yakud yang ditamatkan pukul 6 petang tadi akan disambung pagi esok.

Menurut Ketua Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Tawau Faisal Ahmad, dua pelajar

berkenaan adalah antara empat yang dihanyutkan arus deras itu dalam kejadian

pukul 3.30 petang semalam.

Dua lagi iaitu Mohd Jamaludin Shah, 24, dan Siti Lyana, 22, ditemui sedang

berpaut pada batu kira-kira tiga jam selepas kejadian, katanya ketika dihubungi

di sini hari ini.

Menurutnya kejadian berlaku ketika pelajar dari Fakulti Sains UBD terbabit

sedang menjalankan kajian geologi pada batuan yang ada di tebing sungai

berkenaan.

Sementara itu, jurucakap UBD berkata pelajar terbabit antara 28 penuntut

tahun dua universiti berkenaan yang menjalankan kajian lapangan di sini sejak 22

Feb lepas.

Mereka dijadual balik ke Brunei hari ini, katanya menambah rombongan

diketuai dua pensyarah.

Kumpulan penuntut terbabit dibawa pulang ke Brunei hari ini menaiki pesawat

khas Royal Brunei Airlines.

Sementara itu, Konsul Agung Brunei di Kota Kinabalu Zamani Razali berkata

pihaknya berterima kasih kepada kerajaan negeri Sabah dan Malaysia atas bantuan

yang diberikan.

Dalam pada itu, Pembantu Menteri Kewangan Sabah Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar

Titingan yang hadir ke Lapangan Terbang Tawau untuk memberi sokongan moral

kepada rombongan berkenaan turut melahirkan rasa sedih dan simpati kepada

mangsa.
