Singapore kick off their 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup campaign against bitter rivals and defending champions Malaysia on Sunday.

While they are no longer considered one of the favourites for the South East Asian football crown, the Lions will be out to avoid their disappointing 2010 group stage exit.

Raddy Avramovic's task of leading Singapore to glory for the third time under his reign (he won in 2004 and 2007) will face the stiffest of tests after being placed in Group B alongside defending champions Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos.

Group A consists of Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Myanmar.

The top two in each group will advance to the semis, with the final being a two-legged affair on 19th and 22nd December.

But with LionsXII players including in-form captain Sharil Ishak making up the majority of the squad, there is a quiet optimism in the Singapore dressing room — especially after rounding off their preparations with a resounding 4-0 win over Pakistan in a friendly.

Can our boys go all the way or will they fall short again?
