2 proposed condo projects in Ampang Jaya may cause landslides

Some residents near Bukit Antarabangsa and Highland Towers in Ampang are afraid that the two proposed condominium projects in the area may trigger landslides, according to The Sun Daily.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has received two condo development proposals from Spectacular Heights Sdn Bhd and Mayland's unit Forward Esteem Sdn Bhd. They involve five 17-storey condominium blocks in Taman Sri Ukay, and three 40-storey condominium blocks in Taman Hillview, respectively.

Those living in the area are unhappy with the proposals as the area has a history of landslides, said Lee Joo Khim, a Resident of Taman Sri Ukay.

"We are deeply concerned about the proposed development of the 17-storey blocks at the foot of Bukit Antarabangsa and close to Highland Towers - both areas of which have a history of slope failure," she said.

"We are equally concerned about the proposed development of three blocks of 40-storeys on a small hill near the DUKE highway in adjoining Taman Hillview," added Lee.

As such, residents had talked to the officers at Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and the concerned developers. Norhayati Ahmad, Public Relations Officer at MPAJ pointed out that no approval permit for either project was issued.

"There are proposed developments for that area, but MPAJ has not issued any permit for either project so far," she said, adding that the proposal is only at the hearing stage.

Dorothy Cheong, MPAJ Councilor, commented: "It is definitely not easy to get a project through, there are so many requirements that they have to fulfill; we have rejected many development proposals and if there are objections from the residents, it is definitely more reason not to let a project through."

"We will see what reasons the developers have for this proposed developments," she added.
